Thirty-two senior students from Plainfield High School-Central Campus, Plainfield South High School, Plainfield North High School, and Plainfield East High School spent a few days this summer learning about writing a college admissions essay.
Kady Fairfield Meneses, social studies teacher at PEHS, and Cindy Egizio, PEHS assistant principal, brought representatives from the University of Chicago on July 28 and 29 to show students what colleges look for in essays and how to structure them effectively.
Students spent day two writing their own essays and received feedback on them.
“This workshop motivated our students to get a head start--to prioritize themselves and to invest time and effort in their future,” said Fairfield Meneses.
“Overall, students were grateful for the information and advice provided by the UChicago admissions advisor, and were appreciative of the 1:1 conferences with instantaneous feedback on their drafts provided by PEHS staff members,” she added.
There was no charge for the workshop and Fairfield Meneses hopes to bring it back next summer.
