FND English 1 Period 3 & 7

This course is intended to advance students organizational, reading, writing, speaking, listening, and critical thinking skills so students are better able to perform with their same age peers in future English courses.  Pacing will be slower to give students more time to focus on basic writing skills. The literature features short stories (fiction/non-fiction), novels, poetry, plays, and articles. Emphasis is placed on meeting state learning standards in English and on improving writing, speaking, and listening skills. 

Course: 

·Unit 1 Focus: identifying elements of fiction for mastering theme, plot, and conflict (The  Most Dangerous Game and Of Mice and Men)
·Unit 2 Focus: point of views, analyze elements of a play (Twelve Angry Men)
·Unit 3 Focus: Introducing Shakespeare to students:  Romeo and Juliet, author’s use of literary elements:  symbolism, characterization, irony, tone, etc.
·Unit 4 Focus: Novel Study: Night- Research, themes, & textual evidence
